They never made any with a manual anywhere. Could be swapped. I’ve seen that a few times.

Almost bought one in MD in ‘97 - all autos in US.

The did not. There was a conversion kit, though.
I would be skeptical, though.

And here my wife told me we had to buy a new house before we start adding new cars... shit.

They didn't even make manual SVXs. Any one you find is a swap.

The interiors on these weren't large enough to fit a camera AND a person inside.

Must be an error in post, because you are correct: no manuals in America.

Must be a swap. The auto trans was fairly weak. The transmission in my step dad’s svx died at 100k miles. The car was still in excelent shape so he just had a new auto trans installed.

Didn’t they not even officially make these with 5-speeds?

Skeptical is right. The seller says it’s a 5-speed, but doesn’t say what 5-speed was used. If it was a 5-speed from a WRX, Forester XT, etc. (turbo car, basically), then it shouldn’t be an issue (unknown backyard mechanic issues aside). However, if the 5-speed was from a non-turbo Subaru, then who ever buys this must realize that they’ll probably be installing a new transmission at some point. The NA 5mt is just as weak, if not weaker than the 4EAT the SVX originally came with in the US.

All autos world-wide. Subaru didn’t have a manual transmission capable for the application in the early years. A suitable transmission was available a bit later (11/92 in the first WRX), but Subaru was so upside-down on development costs on the SVX that they didn’t spend additional development money needed to modify and implement it (changing gearing, etc.).

I would not touch a conversion on one of those cars. They’re complicated to begin with, and getting the pieces to work in harmony would be next to impossible.

The manual swap is common enough on these that that wouldn’t be a deal breaker. I’d want to get a good look at the work, though.

A manual conversion isn’t too difficult on these cars. Now, the bigger concern for me would be the level of workmanship and parts that were used. Seeing the quality of the ad doesn’t leave me with a lot of confidence.

My guess is this person got the car after the conversion, not even realizing it wasn’t oem.
